This is a quick rant that I had to get off my chest:
I have just finished reading a six-page review of The Force Unleashed (Wii version) in the latest issue of The Official Nintendo Magazine (UK edition, issue 34, October 2008) and I’m now feeling rather dejected about this game.
ONM has given The Force Unleashed 82%, in itself not a bad score, and although they say “this game gives you lots of power“, their last word on this game is “ultimately it’s heartbreakingly short“. You see, apparently this game only has about six hours of game-play in it! I mean, if I’m going to spend thirty quid (50USD) on a video game I expect to get more than six hours of game-play out of it. Okay, controlling a lightsaber using the Wii remote is going to be the closest thing to actually using a lightsaber, but as a gamer I expect more than six hours worth of playing time. Even if I was to try to extend the playing time by collecting the 200 hidden hologram cubes within the game, my only reward is concept art! That is no reward as a lot of The Force Unleashed’s concept art is available freely on the internet!
The question is, will the version for my Xbox 360 offer better game-play time (I know it will have better graphics, but it’s game-play that’s important to me) and if so, should I forego the exclusive lightsaber control on my Wii and pay an extra tenner for longer playing time?
Maybe, just maybe I should learn to realise that in the end, almost all Star Wars games fail to deliver what they initially promise. I suppose it’s back to Knights of the Old Republic, at least that game had proper game-play!

The question that could be asked in this case, is it short because they are planning to do a part 2?
Now, I know that a lot of people on this site probably have not read the novel yet and are waiting for the game to be released ( hummmmmm I wonder who they could be be??
). And, not to give anything away but those who have read the book ………. well it might be a stretch but didn’t something/someone/it happen on a “living” planet that something with 2 short blades against one flashing then a wink was involved with a head turned before leaving on someone’s/something’s/it’s merry way??? This something / someone / it might be a stretch but - hell even Boba got out of the Sarlacc pit :-). It might be possible, could be, maybe or oh hell I’m smoking something but now a days, every one is trying to milk a movie, TV, music, and game franchise as far as possible before the money goes elsewhere.
Yes, there has been a lot of hype about this game for that past months/years/decades (just kidding on that last part) that this game needs to live up to. I will be the first to rip this game a new one if it sucks, but maybe, just maybe there is reason why the game could be that short. Only time will tell so let’s hope and bow our heads to the SW God for good things that come to those who wait.
Now, if it does suck, who wants to bring the tar and feathers - I call the feathers
String them all up by their thumbs and hose them down.
i read the novel the force unleashed i hope the game lives up to the novel beacuse if it does not i will be super pissed. i have a question for the people that have downloaded the demo is the fighting like knights of the old republic 1-2 or is it like jedi knightjedi academy 1-2. i do agree with you the apprentices enemys should have had a bit more of a back story to them. the book was good but the author should have made the book 50 more pages just to give the various enemys a decent back story. i have ordered the xbox 360 verison of the game and it sure as hell better have more then 6 hours worth of game play to it.
IF YOU BRING THE FEATHERS I WILL BRING THE TAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To be honest, if there was a TFU 2, I would be sorely pissed off. I don’t expect to spend around fifty bucks only to find there’s going to be a sequel in a year’s time. If that happens, I won’t be buying TFU on launch date, instead I’ll wait six months until the price has dropped - or even pick up a second-hand copy.
After reading more reviews, I have decided to opt for the XBox version as its reviews appear to be more pragmatic about the gameplay. (Will probably still buy the Wii version, but will wait till price drops or get it second-hand). Have paid my two buck deposit with GameStation (get a free copy of the graphic novel if you pre-order) and will wait patiently till Friday 19th….
i ordered the game a while a go. it has been shiped i shoul get it today or wednessday or thursday.
I finally got my XBox Live account set up (CANNOT believe that MS do not have wifi built-in to the 360 like my Wii (or the PS3) - very stingy of MS) and am patiently awaiting the sloooowwwww download of TFU demo - nearly 1Gb!!! Probably get game on Friday before download has finished
where and how do you get the download??? it is thursday today the 18 it better be here by the 20th but i think it will get here tommorow…… i want to play it so bad
Download is available via XBox Live Market - Demos - be warned it is just under 1Gb in size. Even on broadband ur looking at about 3 hours to download for about 30-45 mins of play!
thanks no one wold tell me where to get the download.
People should read this.
